The 15 min City - the future of urban transformation

Speaker: Carlo Ratti, Eric Iwersen, Amy Guttman
Language: EN

Demand for village-style neighborhoods that allow its residents to complete daily activities within 15 minutes of their doorstep has increased over the last few years. But, the concept is not a one-size fits all solution. We’ll speak to urban planners from Arizona and Sweden who were involved in adapting the concept to better fit the characteristics of their cities.

The idea of neighborhoods centered around a mix of urban social functions has been around for decades. Over the last 10 years, the concept has, increasingly, been embraced by Mayors, urban planners and designers.

But, the concept is imperfect. More suburban cities require solutions that aren’t strictly limited to car-less urban areas. In Tempe, a 20-minute city emerged, complementing the city’s existing infrastructure and mobility patterns. Urban planners in Stockholm have taken a micro view, focusing on the idea of a one-minute city, and single street transformation.

We’ll explore both of these concepts, which take us beyond the 15-minute city, with Eric Iwersen who was involved in the transformation of Tempe, Arizona and Dr. Alexander Ståhle who has helped transform Stockholm’s streets.

No querrá perdérselo.
